This is the earliest major work in English on the wines of the Ancients, and the first book in English that discusses modern wines. The most interesting part is the 57 page appendix that deals with modern wines - James M. Gabler, (Wine into Words)
The section on modern wines concentrates mainly on Burgundy and Champagne in an era when most Champagne was a flat wine (although the methode Champanoise had been discovered a century earlier, it was not regularly used until the mid nineteenth century). "For some years the French and English have been particularly fond of the sparkling, frothy Champaigns [sic]. The former have almost entirely quitted that depraved taste...".
There are also small but illuminating sections on Bordeaux and wines from elsewhere in the world.
