First edition. 8vo. Original green cloth lettered in black in rare pictorial dustwrapper with colour illustration by Dorothy Wheeler. Colour frontispiece and numerous line drawings in the text by Dorothy Wheeler. A very good copy indeed, clean and crisp, with some spotting to the page edges. In the scarce original dustwrapper, which is in near fine condition. The jacket is complete and clean, with some very short closed edge tears, two of which have been unnecessarily strengthened with archival tape.
The first book in the immensely popular Faraway Tree series. One of the most keenly sought of all Enid Blyton's books. Keen collectors and bibliographers Norman Wright and Tony Summerfield list this book among their top ten Blyton collectables, it being both popular and rare.
