Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Allen & Unwin, 1967.
First U.K. edition. 8vo. Glazed pictorial boards, not issued with dustwrapper. Illustrations in black and white by Faith Jaques. A near fine, bright example of this fragile book, just a little browning to the page edges.
This story was first published in America with Schindelman illustrations. This version is the one which will bring back many memories to those youngsters who read the book in Britain and grew to love the tale of Charlie, Willie Wonka and the unpleasant children who visited the Chocolate Factory.
The story has been adapted for stage and screen on numerous occasions; including the Technicolor "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" from 1971, in which Gene Wilder played the eponymous hero; the 2005 Tim Burton film starring Johnny Depp and in 2013 the musical premiered in the West End directed by Sam Mendes.
