First Deluxe edition, number 481 of 550 copies printed on hand made paper and signed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. Folio. Full white vellum with elaborate gilt decoration to the upper cover, depicting a very regal looking peacock. Gilt embellishments to the spine and an olive green spine label lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Frontispiece and title page illuminated in full colour. Ten other colour illuminations. The text is beautifully printed in red and black. Decorative initials are in red and gold. A very good copy indeed, some bowing to vellum,which is very clean and attractive. Small ding to lower corner and to spine label. Previous owner's bookplate on an initial blank page. Contents beautifully clean, save for light staining to fore-edge of initial three leaves.
The lavish decoration and sumptuous embellishments give this the feel of a medieval manuscript. A fabulous production of this most famous of philosophical love poems.
