First edition, subscriber's large paper issue. Four volumes bound in eight. Large 4to. Contemporary maroon quarter morocco over maroon morocco-cloth boards, with gilt titles to spine. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Sixty eight engraved and lithographic maps and plates (1 tinted, some folding and some double page ) and 200 wood engravings. CHECK In very good condition, light wear to bindings.
This work is generally considered the most in depth history of the county of Buckinghamshire and was published some months after the death of its author. Descriptions include Marlow, Hambleden and Turville.
