First edition. 4to. Quarter tan morocco over paper covered boards by the W.H.Smith bindery, to a design by Douglas Cockerell. Raised bands, lettered in gilt and with a punched dot motif along the sides. Top edge gilt. Vellum tips to outer corners. Eighty black and white illustrations. A very good copy, some fading to the boards and a little wear to the corners, but the spine detailing remains handsome.
PROVENANCE: Library of the W.H.Smith family, Viscounts of Hambleden. Bookplate of the 3rd Viscount to front pastedown.
