First edition. Red cloth in pictorial dustwrapper, upper cover design by E.H. Davie. Colour frontis and line drawings by E.H. Davie. A very good book indeed, page edges with some foxing. In a good only dustwrapper, which has some significant chunks missing to spine ends and corners. A very scarce early Blyton.
The first of the Circus books, which along with The Secret Island, The Wishing Chair and The Enchanted Wood, was published by Newnes between 1937-1939 in a larger format with colour frontispieces. All four books were the first of popular series and all four are now extremely scarce as first editions.
