First edition. Red boards with gilt lettering. Author's presentation copy, inscribed on publication on the front endpaper to Aida Borchgrevink, "A.B. with E.M.F.'s love / 20-10-27". Borchgrevink's ownership signature to the front endpaper. A near fine copy, which is bright and crisp with significant foxing to the preliminaries and page edges.
Aida Borchgrevink, nee Ada Starr, socialite and daughter of an American corn millionaire, met Forster in Alexandria and formed a close friendship with him. Through Forster she became a fringe member of the Bloomsbury set.
