Lady Elizabeth Butler was a well known British artist, who exhibited at the Royal Academy and was mostly famed for her depiction of British military campaigns and battles. The letters are those she wrote to her mother when she accompanied her husband, Lt General Sir William Butler, on a tour of Palestine while he was based at Alexandria.
