SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR
Perelandra
Bodley Head, 1943.
First edition. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt. Signed by the author on publication, on the front end paper for K.P. Storer. Storer's ownership signature and date on the front pastedown. A very good copy indeed, which is just slightly cocked, in a very good dustwrapper with a little chipping to the spine ends and wear to the corners.
Kenneth Peter Storer (1924-2007) came up to University College, Oxford to read English in 1942. C.S. Lewis, although then a fellow at Magdalen had been at University College as an undergraduate and retained strong links with the college. In particular he would take the English tutorials for University College students as they had no English fellow at the time. Storer was one such undergraduate, who developed a friendship with Lewis and dined with him on more then one occasion where Lewis gave him signed copies of his books. Perelandra is the second and most celebrated of Lewis' science fiction trilogy and predates the Narnia series by some seven years. Inscribed copies of Lewis' work are distinctly rare, especially in one of his major works of fiction.
