First edition. 8vo. Original black cloth lettered silver, in the buff printed dustwrapper. Inscribed on the front endpaper by Simon, "For V. Masraff, Andre L. Simon". A very good copy in a good dustwrapper, with a long chip to the upper joint of the wrapper.
The Star Chamber Dinner Accounts record the extravagant feasts enjoyed by the Lords Of The Privy Council in the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. Simon bought a collection of 250 manuscript booklets recording these dinners and publishes here the fifty of them dating between 1567 and 1605, those that occurred in Shakespeare's lifetime.
The accounts are prefaced with Simon's own commentary on food in Tudor England, providing frequent gobbets of culinary references in Shakespeare's plays.
