Full white vellum with elaborate gilt decoration to the upper cover, depicting a very regal looking peacock. Gilt embellishments to the spine and an olive green spine label lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Decorative endpapers. Frontispiece and title page illuminated in full colour. Ten other colour illuminations. The text is beautifully printed in red and black. Decorative initials are in red and gold. A near fine copy. Gift inscription to the front blank.
The lavish decoration and sumptuous embellishments give this the feel of a medieval manuscript. A fabulous production of this most famous of philosophical poems.
