1969.
Rare nativity scene from the master of paper engineering, Kubasta. In very good condition.
This elaborate pop-up illustrating the Christmas nativity scene is set in snowy 19th century Prague, with the Charles Bridge Tower, Church of St Nicholas and St Vitus Cathedral all clearly depicted.
Brought up in Prague, Vojt ch Kubašta began his career as an artist and book illustrator in the early 1940s after studying architecture at the Polytech University in Prague. His distinctive bold and colourful figures, as seen in this work, became increasingly popular. Beginning in the 1950s, he developed an elaborate paper construction tableau for each Christmas season.
