First edition, Edition de Luxe. Number 272 of 600 large paper copies, signed by Rackham. Large 4to. White buckram with lettering and vignette. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Pictorial endpapers with silhouette style drawings. Sixteen tipped in colour plates, protected by captioned tissue guards and 8 other colour illustrations printed onto the page. Also various line drawings. A very good copy, which is bright and clean, but with a little waviness to the cloth of the spine.
Hawthorne's retelling of Greek myths. Tales include: The Gorgon's Head; The Golden Touch; The Paradise of Children; The Three Golden Apples, The Miraculous Pitcher and The Chimaera.
