First edition with Hardwicke Lewis illustrations. 8vo. Dark green cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt, with red ruled design to the spine and upper cover. Gilt heraldic device to the spine. Top edge gilt. Twenty colour illustrations, under captioned tissue guards, by J. Hardwicke Lewis, one black and white photograph of Symonds, and one sketch by him. Fold out sketch map to the rear. A very near fine copy, some sporadic foxing, but cloth clean, bright and attractive.
One of 2000 copies, originally published at 7s 6d. The text for this book was originally published in 1892, with Margaret Symonds' sketch illustrations. This is a more luxurious edition with colour illustrations, which details the life of the author and his family in the Swiss alpine town of Davos during the latter part of the 19th century.
