Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.
Rebecca
Gollancz, 1938.
First edition. Full navy morocco with gilt titles to the spine. Top edge gilt. Inscribed by the author to her close friend Foy Quiller Couch. "Foy - with my love Daphne, August 1938." A very good copy, with a wonderful association.

Published in the summer of 1938 Rebecca was met with great critical acclaim, even being compared to Bronte's Jane Eyre by one reviewer. This copy presented to Du Maurier's great friend Foy Quiller-Couch, who was a close confidante and with whom the author would discuss her plans and story lines during rides through the Cornish countryside.
PROVENANCE: From the library of Foy Quiller-Couch, daughter of Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and close friend of Du Maurier.
