An original pen, ink and watercolour painting on board. Signed and dated by the artist in his characteristic scroll at the top right, with his caption outside the margin on the bottom left. 17.5cm x 24cm. Mounted and framed. Very good condition.
This watercolour depicts part of Act II, Scene 1 from Midsummer Night's Dream where Puck recounts a trick he plays on human-folk, disguising himself as a chair only to vanish when sat upon, much to the mirth of all around.
"The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,
Sometime for three-foot stool mistaketh me;
Then I slip from her bum, down topples she."
