First edition. Original blue cloth with a gilt vignette to the upper panel and gilt titling to the spine. Thirty six colour plates after woodcuts, wood engravings and watercolours by Thomas Mackenzie. A near fine copy, with some very light wear to the spine ends and a previous owner's bookplate to the front free endpaper.

The illustrations of the Yorkshire artist Thomas MacKenzie show his aptitude across a variety of disciplines, are the perfect accompaniment for Southwart's descriptions of Brontë country.
