Publisher's adverts, dated October 1849, to the front. A very good copy indeed, a little rubbing to the spine ends and with some foxing internally, but generally a tight, bright copy. Bookplate to the front pastedown.
Whipple was a noted American essayist, critic and Dickens scholar. This volume contains a series of lectures he gave on authors and their work, and includes an essay on Charles Dickens.
