Sixth edition (eighteenth thousand). Original red cloth lettered and stamped in gilt. All edges gilt. Illustrated throughout by John Tenniel. A near fine copy. The cloth is extremely bright, spine lightly faded and occasional bubbling. Internally hinges tight and pages clean, some have light corner creases.
Originally published in 1866, early editions in original cloth are now quite scarce. This classic story was thought up by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (pseudonym Lewis Carroll) on a summer's day on the river Isis near Oxford.
