Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the front endpaper, "For Henry Walston with warm thanks for his kind hospitality at Newton, from Evelyn Waugh" A very good copy, with some abrasive marks to spine and fore edge, in a very good dustwrapper, with a slightly faded spine and wear to the spine ends.
Henry Walston, later Baron Walston of Newton, was a land owner and politician, whose wife, Catherine was famously Graham Greene's mistress for twenty years and the subject of Greene's novel, The End of the Affair. Waugh was introduced to the Walstons by Greene in 1946.
Men at Arms is the first novel in the Sword of Honour Trilogy and Winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1952.
