First edition, one of 260 copies on handmade 'Batchelor Ashendene' paper (there were also 20 copies on vellum). Folio. Original publisher's white pigskin with raised bands to spine and titled in gilt. Printed in Ptolemy type. Red initial designed by Graily Hewit to the beginning of each chapter and marginal notes also in red in Blado Italic type. A very good copy indeed with a trace of dustiness to the pigskin, but much less so than usual.
Included is the prospectus for Thucydides sent out to subscribers, advertising it as "the last Folio to be issued by the Ashendene Press" and going on to announce the closing down of the press.
