Haunting Edinburgh

GRIERSON, Flora / CAMERON, Katharine

CAMERON, Katharine Haunting Edinburgh

Bodley Head, 1929.

First edition. 8vo. Finely bound in full navy grained morocco. To the upper cover is a "Chivers" style hand painted oval panel depicting Edinburgh Castle and both the spine and boards are decorated with gilt embossed rules and vignettes. Silk doublures and decorative leather turn ins. Sixteen lovely watercolours of Edinburgh scenes and six monochrome drawings by Kate Cameron, as well as 8 other drawings. A fine copy.

The binding is unsigned, but bound in at the front pastedown is a notice stating that this book was the first issued after the opening of the Fountainbridge Public Library on 11th March 1940. As the book was published in 1929 the notice must refer to the binding, which presumably was commissioned in celebration of the library's opening.
