Original sketch on the half title, showing a charming sprite making a beckoning motion, inscribed to Rackham's brother and sister in law "To Robert + Awdry / from / Edyth / + / Arthur Rackham / Christmas 1926". Twenty beautiful mounted colour plates and various line drawings. The title page is elaborately decorated in black and white and makes a stunning beginning to the play. A very good copy indeed of this lovely work.
Every year the Rackhams presented a copy of Arthur Rackham's latest gift book to members of Edyth Rackham's large family.
PROVENANCE: Christmas gift to Robert and Awdry Starkie from Arthur Rackham and his wife. Arthur Rackham married Edyth Starkie in 1903 and each Christmas Arthur sent his latest book to her family.
