The author's most famous book and one of the most notorious books of modern times. The Satanic Verses was deemed to be against Islam, the Prophet and the Koran, causing the late Ayatollah Khomeini to issue a fatwa on its author, declaring him an enemy of Islam whose blood should be shed, causing Rushdie to go into hiding for almost twelve years.
