First edition. Folio. Yellow paper covered boards with a large colour lithograph on the upper cover and matching pictorial dustwrapper. Illustrated by the author, with title page vignette and forty other colour lithographs of varying sizes. The text is reproduced from Ardizzone's own hand written script. A near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper indeed, just slight dustiness, though much less than usual and a little wear to the spine ends with a couple of short closed tears. Internally very bright. Printer's file copy with slip to front pastedown. A very well preserved copy of seldom found in nice condition.
A charming story written for Ardizzone's son, which follows two boys and their dog saving a train. One of only four early, large fornat, children's books, written and illustrated by Ardizzone, all of which are rare in nice condition.
