First edition, deluxe issue. Number 559 of 750 copies, signed by Helen Allingham. Finely bound by Cedric Chivers in full green morocco with two inlaid vellucent panels, containing watercolours reproducing an English scene and a decorative title wreath, both with gilt and mother of pearl inlays. The upper cover is further decorated with a symmetrical art nouveau design in gilt and two yellow morocco onlays and a gilt motif in the centre of the back panel. The smooth spine is decorated with the same column gilt decoration and two heart shaped yellow morocco onlays. Single line gilt border on cover, spine and back panel. Gilt ruled turn-ins and green patterned endpapers. Top edge gilt. Eighty one colour illustrations of English scenes of rural life. A near fine copy, with slight fading to the spine, internally fresh.
Contains beautiful Allingham paintings of cottage homes, gardens and British landscapes.
