Publisher's half vellum over red paper covered boards, lettered in gilt to the spine and elaborately decorated to the upper cover in white, red and gilt. Top edge gilt. Housed in original cloth clamshell box. An original signed copperplate etching and eleven tipped in colour plates, plus numerous black and white illustrations by Charles van Sandwyk. A fine copy, in fine slipcase.
Van Sandwyk's whimsical illustrations are a perfect match for Lewis Carroll's fantastical tale, which combined with the luxurious production in keeping with the gift books of the Golden Age of Illustration hark back to another era, yet with a modern twist.
