First edition with van Sandwyk illustrations. 8vo. Green cloth, elaborately lettered and decorated in gilt with pictorial onlay to the upper cover. Housed in publisher's card slipcase. Colour illustrations by Charles von Sandwyk. A fine copy with slight fading to the spine, in a fine slipcase.
The text in this edition follows that of the first edition, published in 1908. Author Michael Morpurgo described this edition as, 'In almost 100 years since its first publication, I doubt there has been a finer edition.'
