First edition. 4to. Green cloth lettered in gilt with black and red stamped scene on front board and spine. Eight colour plates by Allan Stewart. A near fine copy, bright and fresh, with just tiny spots of foxing in places.
A most handsome version of this English legend. Allan Stewart was a Scottish artist renowned for his oil paintings, studying at Edinburgh Institution and RSA Schools, then later in both Spain and France. Stewart's illustrations for Robin Hood combine Romantic art with a more military feel; composing portrayals of armed men in soft woodland scenes and using warm colour palettes.
