The End of Elfintown
Macmillan, 1894.
First edition. Small 8vo. Original brown cloth with elaborate gilt embossed decoration. Top edge gilt. A most striking illustrated title page and eight beautiful and ethereal plates, as well as numerous line drawings in the text. A very good copy indeed, spine very slightly dusty and some browning to the preliminary pages.
Many of the illustrations for this volume are reminiscent of the work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, although the title page is undoubtedly an homage to Beardsley.
From the library of Mary Simpson Sorley, a member of the Women's Guild of book binders, with her bookplate on front pastedown.
