Early edition with Harry Clarke's illustrations. 4to. Green cloth with lettering and art nouveau design in black in a defective dustwrapper. 40 full page illustrations, 16 of which are colour, as well as lots of black and white illustrations in the text. A very good copy indeed, clean and bright, apart from a patch of fading at the top of the spine. The dustwrapper is defective, but retains the illustration to the spine and upper cover.
Harry Clarke was a Dublin born artist, who began his career as a stained glass designer. As well as his success in the field of stained glass design he became a prominent book illustrator. Stories in this book include: The Tinder Box; Thumbelina; The Little Match Girl; The Hardy Tin Soldier; The Emperor's New Clothes and others.
