The Far Distant Oxus Introduction by Arthur Ransome
Cape, 1937.
First edition. 8vo. Red cloth with gilt lettering and pictorial dustwrapper. Introduction by Arthur Ransome, pp. 9-18. Pictorial endpapers and black and white illustrations by Pamela Whitlock. A very good copy in a very good dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is price clipped and has some tape repair to the rear and a line of recolouring along the top of the spine.
Inspired by Swallows and Amazons, this was written when the authors were still school girls. They sent their manuscript to Arthur Ransome, who persuaded his publishers, Jonathan Cape, to produce it. Ransome declared it to be "the best children's book of 1937".
