One of the few love stories from Tolkien's legendarium. It is one of three stories in the Silmarillion that Tolkien thought deserved their own long-form narratives.
Tolkien and his wife Edith share a tombstone in Oxford, 'Luthien' is engraved under her name, and 'Beren' under his.
