First edition in this format. Large 4to. Green cloth with elaborate gilt decoration. In the original pictorial dustwrapper, which has a colour plate on the upper cover. Pictorial title page and sixteen tipped in colour plates. A very good copy indeed. The dustwrapper is in very good condition, with just shallow chips to the corners.
This book is a handsome production with beautiful covers and plates mounted onto art paper - its published price was 20 shillings. The title is preceded by a cheaper format (price when issued 6s) in 1916 which had one less colour plate.
Stories from the various allied nations, including "Snegorotchka", "Ivan and the Chestnut Horse", "Fire Bird"(Russia); "Urashima Taro" (Japan); "The Story of a Bird Feng" (China), plus various French, Irish and British tales.
