Cornford was a Fellow and teacher of ancient philosophy at Trinity College, Cambridge, and in 1908 wrote this witty and satiric pamphlet on university politics in order to propagate proposals for reforming the teaching of Classics. Although written for the academic world of Cambridge, its precepts could apply to any political system - and frequently have been.
