WITH LENGTHY INSCRIPTION BY BEATRIX POTTER
The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck
F. Warne & Co., 1908.
First edition. 12mo. Original green paper cover boards with white lettering and pictorial onlay to the upper cover. Author's presentation copy, inscribed at length by the author on the front endpaper, "To Mr Dixon of Howe End, these curious happenings amongst the foxgloves in Bishop's Wood are presented by the author with kind regards from Beatrix Potter Dec 23rd 1916." Pictorial endpapers and 27 colour illustrations by the author. A very good copy indeed with a little wear to the corners at the ends of the spine. Internally fresh with just a short closed tear to the front endpaper.
George Dixon, a local land agent and smallholder, was Beatrix Potter's neighbour in Sawrey.
This book is a delightful tale of the gullible Jemima Puddle-duck and the sly foxy whiskered gentleman. The English Lakeland scenery is beautifully depicted in this story.
