Everest: The Unfinished Adventure
Hodder & Stoughton, 1937.
First edition. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and bands on spine, in the original white dustwrapper, photographic illustration to upper cover, printed in sky blue. Pencil sketches of the members of the expedition. Folding maps and a portfolio of sixty-three photographic plates at rear. A fine copy in a fine dustwrapper. A bright copy of the book, with a couple of light spots to the endpapers only. The dustwrapper is remarkably clean and bright, brilliantly white, with a short closed tear to the upper cover the only detraction.
Most uncommon in such a clean and bright dustwrapper.
After his attempt to summit the mountain in 1933, Ruttledge was invited to lead the sixth British attempt on Everest in 1936.
Because of recent failed expeditions, the pressure on Ruttledge's large and talented team to succeed was great, but heavy snow and an early monsoon forced them to abort their summit attempt.
