and his Knights of the Round Table. Abridged from Malory's Morte D'Arthur by Alfred W. Pollard.
The Romance of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Abridged from Malory's Morte D'Arthur by Alfred W. Pollard.
Macmillan, 1917.
Deluxe first edition. Number 366 of 500 copies printed on large paper and signed by Arthur Rackham. Large 4to. Bound in publisher's full white vellum with gilt titles and vignettes. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Sixteen tipped in colour plates, mounted within a printed border and protected by captioned tissue guards. There are also 70 black and white drawings, some full page. A very good copy indeed of a book difficult to find in nice condition. A little dustiness to the covers, light spotting to page edges and endpapers. Internally fresh, a number of pages unopened.
The large paper copy of this book is so impressive, especially when compared to the trade edition which is a smaller format and is much less imposing. A delight for Arthurian fans and Rackham devotees alike.
