First UK edition. Publisher's green cloth, lettered gilt, in the striking red and green pictorial dustwrapper by Hans Tisdall. A near fine copy, light spotting to page edges, in a bright, near fine dustwrapper, a shade on toning to the spine and a short closed tear to the base of the upper joint.
The novel is set in Sicily, mostly in the summer of 1860, against the invasion of Garibaldi's army of the Risorgimento. Originally published in Italian under the title "Il Gattopardo" it is widely regarded as one the classics of modern Italian literature.
