Christina Rossetti Poems
Blackie, 1910.
First edition illustrated by Florence Harrison. Full white buckram with gilt titles and Art Nouveau design in gilt to spine and covers. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Thirty six mounted colour plates and many Art Nouveau style plates and line drawings by Florence Harrison. A near fine copy, bright and clean, with just a touch of dustiness. A gift inscription to the front endpaper and a little foxing to the page edges, but generally internally clean.
This book is a sumptuous production with the Art Nouveau / Pre Raphaelite style illustrations ideally matching Rossetti's poetry. A large selection of the artist's poems, including: Goblin Market, The Prince's Progress and Dreamland as well as with a section of "Devotional Poems". The illustrations have a mixture of influences, the Pre-Raphaelite period is represented by the use of warm rich colours and the Art Nouveau style is evident in the stylised line drawings.
