First edition. 4to. Publisher's black boards, lettered, decorated and ruled gilt, with pictorial onlay to upper cover. Pictorial endpapers printed in green. Colour frontispiece and title page, with fifteen further colour plates, under captioned tissue-guards. A near very good copy, with some wear to the head of the spine and a small hole to the upper joint. Lacking one tissue guard.
The artwork for the Arabian Nights took Sterrett 3 years to complete and were her last completed commission before her death from tuberculosis in 1931. The St Louis Post-Dispatch wrote of her work "Her achievement was beauty, a delicate, fantastic beauty, created with brush and pencil.... she made pictures of haunting loveliness, suggesting Oriental lands she never saw and magical realms no one ever knew except in the dreams of childhoodÂ…"
