BEAUTIFUL BATIK DESIGN COVER
How Cinderella Was Able to Go to the Ball A brochure written and illustrated by Jessie M. King
Foulis, 1924.
First edition. 8vo. Paper covered boards with the variant batik design, in deep shades of blue, red, green, yellow and orange. Tipped in colour frontis, tipped in colour illustration on contents page and final page. In addition there are 6 mounted colour illustrations by Jessie, one mounted colour diagram, numerous photographs and double page illustrations by Jessie. In order to go to the ball Jessie's Cinderella is forced to make her own Batik gown. A very good copy, spine faded and joints a little rubbed.
This is a bright copy of this very rare Batik covered version of this book. Very few copies of this binding are known to exist and most of them are so faded that for many years nobody realised the red and fuchsia colours were present.
The original sale price of the book in this binding was half a guinea compared to ordinary edition at 6 shillings.
PROVENANCE: Bookplate of George Fleming, noted British collector of children's books, to front pastedown.
