and Other Stories
INSCRIBED FOR VIVIEN LEIGH
Pretty Polly Barlow and Other Stories
Heinemann, 1964.
First edition. Original blue boards, in the dustwrapper. Inscribed by Coward to Vivien Leigh on the front free endpaper: "For Dear Darling, with Amore, Noelie". A fine copy in a very good dustwrapper.
An excellent association: Coward was a long-time friend of both Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier. He had launched Olivier's career by giving him the part of Victor Prynne in Private Lives in 1930, and later worked with Leigh in South Sea Bubble (1956) and Look After Lulu (1959). The novel Pomp and Circumstance has the same colonial island setting as his play South Sea Bubble.
PROVENANCE: From the library of Vivien Leigh (1913-67)
