Les Aventures Du Roi Pausole
L'Estampe Moderne, 1930.
First edition illustrated by Brunelleschi. 4to. Limited edition of 499 copies, this being number 100 of 450 copies printed on verge d'Arches. Original card wrappers, printed in blue and black, with the original glassine and the original decorative publisher's box and chemise. Seventeen colour pochoir illustrations, 9 of which are full page under tissue guards, 4 are book heading under tissue guards, and 4 are chapter headings. A fine copy, bright and beautiful, in a very good box, chemise cracked at the joints. An exceptional example of a rare and fragile item.
Brunellischi's brightly coloured Art Deco style illustrations are perfect for this French satire on morality by an author whose writings "expressed pagan sensuality with stylistic perfection".
Engraved by aquafortist Gorvel, the line engravings were drawn in black by Adolphe Valcke and stencilled by Jean Saudé. The typographic printing was entrusted to the Coulouma printing office in Argenteuil
