An original pen and ink drawing, signed A. Rackham to the lower left hand corner. 33 x 29cm. A nativity scene with Mary rocking baby Jesus in the manger and three winged angels carrying a washing jug and bowl. In very good condition, with slight dustiness to the surround.
To the verso is the stamp of artist agent A.E. Johnson, noting the drawing as being no 3, When Christmas Was by Arthur Rackham.
This item first appeared in the Women's Home Companion Vol. 58, no. 12 (Dec 1931) in the article "To Bethlehem: A Christmas Masque" by Laura Spencer Porter. The article appeared on pages 21-22 and 103-104. This illustration by Rackham appeared on page 22.
