Design for a Plate

BELL, Vanessa

Design for a Plate - ,

1919.

240mm in diameter. Watercolour on glazed paper covered card. A concentric design in blue and black. Some wear and cracking to the surface. Mounted and framed.

The pattern shows strong stylistic similarity to plates designed by Vanessa Bell for the Omega Workshops, founded by members of the Bloomsbury Group and established in July 1913. Omega closed in 1919, after a clearance sale, and was officially liquidated on 24 July 1920. The same aesthetic imbued Charleston, East Sussex, the country home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant.
