1928.
176mm x 167mm. Original pen and ink drawing of Christopher Robin strolling along, o19727ne hand in his pocket, eating an apple. Signed by Shepard in the bottom right corner. A fine, large example, clean and unfaded.
Reproduced on page 105 of The House At Pooh Corner. "Christopher Robin came down from the Forest to the bridge, feeling all sunny and careless..."
This delightful image introduces Christopher Robin's involvement in chapter VI of The House at Pooh Corner, "In Which Pooh Invents A New Game And Eeyore Joins In". The game is the now famous 'Pooh Sticks'.
Mounted on the back of the frame is a letter about this drawing from the noted New York bookseller, Alwin J. Scheuer, to the original owner, Herbert L Carlebach,
"The drawing "All Sunny and Careless"... is the Original Drawing by Shepard for this book, and has just reached me from the Exhibition at the Sporting Gallery in London.
I am writing this, not for your information, because you know all about it, but for the benefit of doubting posterity."
This is significant as the majority of Shepard originals from the Pooh books found in commerce are copies made by Shepard later. The draftsmanship evident in this drawing is superior and more detailed than in the more hastily produced copies. Genuine originals for Pooh books are rare.
