Cards on the Table
Collins Crime Club, 1936.
First edition. Publisher's orange cloth lettered in black. Author's presentation copy, inscribed to Katharine Woolley on front endpaper "Katharine from Agatha". A very good copy, slightly cocked with fading to spine and bumped upper corners.
Sir Leonard and Katharine Woolley were good friends of Christie and her second husband, the archaeologist Sir Max Mallowan.
Mallowan's archaeological career began as an assistant to Woolley at the excavations at Ur in southern Iraq, and through this friendship and tutelage Christie met Woolley's wife Katharine, on whom the character of Louise Leidner in Murder In Mesopotamia is purportedly based.
An Hercule Poirot story.
