First edition, large paper issue deluxe, number 147 of 350 copies signed by Ranjitsinhji and printed on handmade paper. Original cream buckram, titles in gilt with a vignette of the England and Sussex badges to the upper cover. Photogravure frontispiece of the author, 21 further photogravure plates and 85 full page photographic plates. A very good copy with some foxing and general light soiling to the buckram covers. Foxing to the uncut page edges, but internally clean and crisp.
Ranjitsinhji's magnum opus, all the more remarkable as the author went up to Cambridge in 1891 never having played in an organised cricket match, is now recognised as a classic treatise on the game.
